Ha`iku - a fast growing residential and agricultural community in East Maui known for its rain, lush vegetation and country atmosphere.

Haleakala – volcanic mountain which encompasses East Maui. Also Haleakala National Park. Literally, House of the Sun.

Hali`imaile – an upcountry pineapple town which is almost always mispronounced in this way: Hailimaili.

Hana – a small town on the east end of Maui known for its winding road and for its Hawaiian heart.

Honokawai/Kahana/Napili/Mahinahina– West Maui havens for condo dwellers.

`Iao – valley, stream and needle (peak) in central Maui much admired by both ancient kings and today's tourists.

Ka`anapali – area north of Lahaina where the first resort destination in Hawai`i was created.

Kahului – a practical town in central Maui where you arrive by plane, shop and do business.

Kapalua – former pineapple area, now home to a first-class resort.

Kihei – popular residential and tourist town on South Maui known for its condos.

Kula – Upcountry town that offers a cool climate and quiet living.

Lahaina – historic whaling town and West Maui tourist mecca.

Ma`alaea – oceanside South Maui community with harbor, shops and condos.

Makawao – an Upcountry town famous for its rodeo heritage, now a home for trendy shops.

Makena- South Maui area famous for Big Beach and a resort community.

Maui – not only an island but a county that includes Moloka`i, Lana`i and Kaho`olawe.

Maui Community College – a branch of the University of Hawai`i system which offers liberal arts and vocational degrees, plus University programs.

North ShoreSpreckelsville through the Ha`iku area.

Olowalu – former plantation town now planned for renewal.

Pa`ia – historic plantation town on the North Shore which attracts tourists, hippies and surfers.

Pukalani – an Upcountry residential community with its own golf course.

South Maui –from Ma`alaea to Makena.

Ukumehame – valley adjacent to Olowalu slated for development.

`Ulupalakua – remote East Maui community known for its ranch and winemaking.

Upcountry – the East Maui communities of Makawao, Kula, Pukalani and Ha`iku.

Valley Isle – a nickname for Maui which refers to the isthmus which separates Haleakala and the West Maui Mountains.

Wailea – South Maui area with large world-class hotels and homes.

Wailuku – an old-style town, home to government and professional offices.

West Maui – from Ukumehame to Honokohau.

West Maui Mountains – the mountain mass which forms West Maui.
